On Today…

I saw you today,

starring back through the passenger window.

I know you know and I remember everything.

I saw you today and my heart fluttered a familiar way—-in the way you used to break me and love the little pieces.

I saw you with faces I did not recognize. The fat woman in ugly pink and the tall guy in back.

They do not see your mouth gaping.

They do not see the pain in your eyes or the shock in your stance.

I saw you today and I know you saw me too.

I saw you today and I kept on driving.

You saw me today and knew I was never turning back.
